Maya wont start.

When I open maya it goes through the loading phase, then opens up the maya window, but freezes in the middle of displaying the full window.. the icons dont load, and it just freezes there..

anyone know what it could be?

Some things that may be causing the problem:

Firewall improperly configured.
Video card drivers need updating.
Low memory in your computer.
Too many programs running for your system to handle.
corrupted Preferances files or folders.
Corrupted or missing Plug-in attempting to start.

Question you should ask yourself:

Has Maya 6.0 ever started and run correctly on this PC?
Does my system meet minimum system requirements?
Is my Maya installation corrupted?
Did i install maya with Anti-virus running?

See if this helps you trouble shoot your issue.

My system specs:

Windows XP
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Nvidia GeForce FX 5700LE
512 MB RAM

My specs seem good enough, and I dont have any programs in the background when installing, nor any Anti-virus programs.. and my video card drivers are all updated..

ok, so continue with Iron_tick's list and check the installation and/or delete the preference files to force Maya to rewrite them.

Go to your 'My DOcuments' folder and look for your maya folder. Open it up and locate your '6.0' folder. rename it to '6.0 old' or anything you want, this is just so maya wont see it when it boots.

After the last screenshot I'd say you either have a display problem or a faulty install. Did a little research on Alias and found the don't like the Geforce cards. From the Alias compatibility page:

"Nvidia GeForce256, GeForce2, GeForce3, GeForce4 series
There are many cards based on GeForce256, GeForce2, GeForce3 and GeForce4 chipsets. Nvidia and Alias do not recommend these cards for use with Maya as you may experience various refresh, display and stability problems and inadequate performance.
We suggest you choose from Nvidia's workstation cards instead, such as the Quadro families which are much better suited to high-end 3D packages such as Maya. "

They don't specifically address the GeForceFX, but the statement above wouldn't make me too confident in the that card. If you'd like to read more on video card campatiblity with Maya:

wow, it seems like that list gets smaller and smaller every version. Dont firget to try and reinstall maya again. Use every resource you can to make sure you dont just have a software issue.

Maya worked with my old graphics card which was a GeForce, but stopped working on that one at certain time.. then while it wasnt working i got a newer one which is the one I have now and it still doesnt work.. So i dont think its a display problem.. I also reinstalled maya many times..

The one thing I forgot to say was that Maya stopped working after I had installed a game that was faulty.. When trying to install that game, I messed around with my Windows Services in the Administrative Tools, and used someones page as a resource on what services might not be needed.. So I disabled some that were not needed according by this site... It might be a problem from that, but on that page it had all the defaults that windows puts the services at, whether Disabled, Automatic, or Manual, and I put all of my services at their defaults... So it shouldnt be that.. Heres the site.. https://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm - scroll down to see the list of services and their statuses..

By the way, dont tell me im an idiot for doing this because I fully know how stupid it was..

Thanks for all your help so far!
