Complete Newbie

I'm new to this whole 3d stuff.... and well, I checked eveything out and Maya looks the most appealing to me. Where should I start? Where could I get s copy of the program? Any help would be appreciated.

Alias offer a free version of Maya (known as the Personal Learning Edition, or PLE) that is fully functional. The only caveat is that renders from PLE contain heavy watermarking. Also, PLE files do not work with licensed versions of Maya.

HOWEVER, it is a great way of learning how to use Maya!
