Hi!

2nd Problem.... when is create a new spot light the light goes through the object which is placed in front of it...

i used a standard spot light with

intensity 4.132
cone angle 4.00

light Fog: lightfog1
fog spread: 2.232
fog intensity: 1.818

Under the lightshape attributes check the depth shadows box I think, and alter the number to suit, that should sort it out!

thx!! - you're right i forgot the shadows...

added ray trace shadows

rendered with mental ray
now it works

but there is still the problem, that i need a "triangle shaped light area".
It should represent a spot laser with a cylinder lense which forms a trinangle....

The whole system is a light section system (laser and camera) for measurements (like in the picture attached in my 2nd post)

i hope someone can help me solve this problem.... is it possible to change the shape of the spot light???

hmmm... sounds interesting - i will try this...

meanwhile i solved my problem like this:

(1) polygon cube --> forming a trinagle
(2) cutting out the "light" behind the object
(3) reverse normals
(4) deleting the "bottom side face"
(5) now i have a line on the objekt which represents my laser line

its simple 3d geometry

create a parabola and revolve it. place a spot light at the focal point pointing at the parabolic surface. make the parabolic surface 100% reflective

I think i might go try that now...

wait, I can't get it to work unless someone can tell me how to reflect light off a surface onto another surface

reflections? or actual light, as you would illuminate something with a mirror
