[question] the box around a motion path

I have some text I want to pull along a motion path. It bends around a corner, and I want each letter to bend around it individually. The grouped text though is stiff, the whole word moves in unison. I tried giving the letters joints, but as they're parented to the first letter, it doesn't work either. I know there's a way to make a box around the motion path, so that the joints will bend to stay in it (I think). What is this called and how do I go about doing it? Or is there another way?

Should I just do each letter individually? There's got to be an easier way.
