Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Maya returner needs some help

Hi guys.

I know it has been about a year since my last post but I have had a change of career among other things.

I am returning to Maya to have a hobby that keeps me sane.

While rendering some flybys on my Star Destroyer and thinking about finishing the Oliphant I am rendering some New York street furniture using Ambient Occlusion and Mental Ray.

However there are dark artifacts appearing where there should be shadows. I know it's probably some simple setting to stop it but im a bit rusty at the moment so would appreciate your help.

Here are my render settings.

Mental Ray
Max Sample Level - 2

Shadows
Shadow Method - Segments
Shadow Maps - On
Rebuild Shadow Maps - Off
Shadow Map Bias - 0.000

Hope this helps and thanks in advance.

I don't have much experience with this but one thought is the settings for the mib_amb_occlusion1

A decent starting point could be
Samples: 32
Max Distance: 10

and fiddle with it from there. Hope this had anything to do with it (firing blind here hehe)

Having a slightly different problem now.

The image renders out alright but when I go to do a batch render all I get is blank images. I have deleted the camera and made a new one but it's still the same problem.

Has anyone out there experienced this?

Cheer

Ok, a bit of development here.

I did a scene optimization and now it wont batch render any of the frames.

It starts and then stops without doing anything, and this is all I get.

Image name is now BIN_PAN_
// Result: saving temporary file E:/Media/Maya Files/Projects/Still_Moving/scenes/BIN_PAN___3592.mb //
// Result: Rendering with mental ray... //
// Result: Rendering Completed. See mayaRenderLog.txt for information. //

I will have a look at this render log and see what it says.

The plot thickens.
