Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

I need help here!

I recently discovered to figure out one issue with smooting of edges on a poly object. When some vertices are split and seemingly look like one vertice, smoothing looks wrong... but...

I have now gone over this very simple object and there are no split vertices on this end of the object, still, the shading is wrong.

I first deleted the history...
Then set the normals to all faces... Normals-->Set to face
Then I selected all eges and smoothed'em... Normals--SoftenNormals

But I still get this unwanted shading.

What have I done wrong?

Is this some issue with vertice normals? I don't get this!

I have use the cut faces tool once, and fooled alot with the setting, but still in the same situation as the last time (i think).

Here are the vertice normals displayed.

Every vertice has two normals it seems.

every now and then, I've had a situation where there are more than 1 edge on top of each other, without having more than 1 vertice in place...

Nevermind user added image

I think I use the Normals-->Soft/hard edges wrong anyway.

It looks allright, when I am not trying to "smooth" the "sharp" edges (like the eges on a simple cube).
