How to split an polygonal object into 2 objects?

Here I go again. My Maya skills are so rusty. user added image
How do I split an polygonal object over a row of edges into 2 separate objects?
Actually the complete reverse of Combine separate objects and Merge its vertices.
It feels so familiar that I know there is a function in the menu I am overlooking that does all this.

Thanks. U gave me a lead to what I was looking for.

Separate
Separates all disconnected shells in a mesh into separate meshes

Extract
Detaches the selected faces from the associated mesh.

Instead of selecting edges, I'll select the 'other half' of faces of the still single object and extract it to make 2 separate objects.
