This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

longsword + scabbart

Hello,

I was getting tired of working on my rivet gun, so i wanted to make something else. So I made this sword in 30 minuts mainly using extruding.

not bad - but the textures look very clean and the design is a bit simple.

i never understand why people tell you how long it took to make something - like doing something in 30 minutes is supposed to impress. the first thing i think is, 'you should have spent a bit more time on that....' user added image

Looking pretty good, as arran said detials are needed.

Yeah Arran, takes me about an hour to get an overall shape of whaever I model, but its the detials that take the time, adding the geo where its needed and planning it all out, that takes the time!!

The design is like this, because the real sword hanging on the wall in front of me looks just like it user added image

Also, the texture is like this. the grip is of very good quality plastic and the scabbart of fake leather which looks almost identical to the plastic.

It took me 30 mins because it was only extruding user added image

But anyway, thanks for the comments!

Suppose that makes them the same material??

Theres got to be a noticable difference in the materials.

Well, there is. But you can only feel it and see it when you're REALLY close. it looks basicly the same.


Here is a picture of the real sword. A bit crappy lighting though. it's dark here user added image
The model isn't exactly the same though. I made a few little changes in the handguard and the scabbart.

Not bad, the thing I have a problem with are the shaders, the metal looks like plastic and the reflections look strange.

is there such a thing as high quality plastic?

it's PLASTIC!!!

(only comment on the renders is 'very shiny', otherwise not a bad model.)

It's just a quick model but I thought I might as well place it on SM.

With "very high quality plastic" I mean it definatly feels right. It's much stronger then low quality toy plastic. The strange reflections may come because of the HDRI Map. I need some better ones and/or find a better solution.
