Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

***Apache Helicopter***

Hi guys,

It's been a while since my last confession, been really busy producing commercials, that's whut I do now for a living, and moved from Belgium to Holland!! Whoaaaah!

Thought of picking up my Maya Habit, to begin with a full model, texture, animate compositing job... the apache helicopter, hopfully much more detailed then the tutorial and better textured! Muaaahaha.

Here is a small start after 90 minutes.

Hey man!

Yeah,

to be quite honest I find the tut to be very basic. No offence to the guy who made it, because he does a job from scratch till finish, something wich is very hard to come by. Or you just get the parts and then need to deal with that in Animation or rendering or blablabla..so respect where it is due, from nothing over texturing, animating and sxf to compositing. Nevertheless it's a bit too skinny for me. I looked on the WWW to find some very exotic pics for me to serve as references for the texturing, ,they look really promising. Trying to gather as much info as possible to make it really detailed. hope I have the strenghth to keep working on this MONSTER.

heheeh

talk soon brotha

2 hours down the line

Had some time to look at the tuts and couple of hours later had som turboshafts with exhaust made.
just started actually, tremendous amount of work to do. But since I'm going to detail it as insanely as possible (I'm actually really thinking of making the motor inside the shaft !!) and of course the cockpitS (yes there's 2 seats - hehehe) it can take a while.
Plan is to have the model in the air by december
Hooah!
That's FUBAR innit!!

Ok guys
Let me know what ya'll think so far

Motor

Did some research on the Apache and I have come up with some great ref pics.
They make it worthwhile to expand the existing tutorial to go further into detail.

The basic mesh of what I had kindda stayed the same but I spent some time on the motor that hides in the shaft. In reality it's obviously far more complex but this is in shape a pretty good idea of where to get. Just have to ad 50-ish small tubes that come and go over the surface of the 1900 shp beast.

Is that al you did in this time? I hear you ask. Hell no. I tought that when I migrated to Holland I lost some 3D data, like the Assault Mech I modelled last winter, guess what: I found it again. A lil' wiser I now know how to render an occlusion layer. Hooah!
So I'm cleaning up this one to finally rig it and get it walking. the the fearsome tast of texturing. Brrrrrr.
