Please Help!!! - Lighting - Distanceing / Candle simulation

For a uni project I need to create a scene where there appears to be hundreds of candles from a distance. Originally I wanted them to flicker but given up on that. The probelm is that when the camera is close to the point light with optical FX they are the right size but when the camera moves away they stay the same size, appearing to increase in size, as the rest of the scene shrinks into the distance.

Please please tell me how I can change it so it appears that the light "shrinks" with the scene.

P.S. Please be gentle with the explantion I'm only a newbie.

Thanks

Did you use volumetric lighting on them? You can always scale down the lights as you change distance for that effect you want user added image
