How do I apply a field on a 2D fluid container?

Hi!
I haven'T worked with maya for a couple of month and have a small problem: I'd like to apply a turbulance or an uniform 2D container. My goal is it to have a word that is going up in smoke. I'd like to use zero gravity and have the smoke going from left to right. Any ideas?

Here u can see what I try to make:

--> the word dates (and later all other navigation points) should be created out of the smoke. Therefore I have to use a field because ATM the smoke for the word comes from the top, but it should come from all sides...
