Animagus

I'm kinda new to this (2 weeks in 3D).

Heres somthing I've been working on to get to grips with maya.

Modeling windows and stuff for the wizards desk at the mo.

There's a long list stuff i want to do to it and an even longer list of whats wrong with it already.

Any advice or criticism would be much appreciated user added image

Depth map shadow settings are to low.

crank up the res to like 512 or 1024
and then play with the settings below I put the filter usually to 3 for softer shadow edges.

Maybe its just me but... I think the bump maps in the right wall and the floor are inverted; in the sense that where there should be a ridge going in (between the rock bricks for example) the bump is going out. That is of course if those bumps are suposed to be what I think they are (the left wall does seem to have ridges going down, that's why I thought that), but maybe that's what you were trying to do, I don't know...

By the way, that's a pretty cool crow you have there. Did you made it all by yourself? Wow, after only two weeks? Impressive.

Looking into the bump maps and the lighting.

Got loads of beer in the flat so i should be able to keep going for a few days without any problems!

Oh yeh I find myself texturing as i go along but most people on this forum seem to only texture once their model is completed. Is there anything wrong with my way of working?

Indeed Roach!

Right. Sorted the shadows out and increased the light intensity.

The room will end up dark as its meant to be candel lit. I've made some candles with a good looking flame but i'm not to sure how to arrange lighting to suit this. Should i place a point light by the candle flame and use a spot to light the surface below or what?
