Whats the best way to go about this?

Ok Im ready for my last 2 scenes of my demo, and im just wondering what would be the best way to go about keeping his hand/s on the sword as he pulls his body around or as the sword bends.

Right now I have the Locator/ik parented to the sword... its working pretty good... but im just wondering if there is a better way to go about it with a bit more controle. I dont use constraints much. I like the controle of key framing.
