help with the HULL modifier in maya

i seriously need help with the hull stuff in maya. in the yamaha modeling section, part 1, where we have to start with the tyres. when i try to select the inner hull points and scale, the whole geometry of the torus starts deforming, instead of only the inner points getting deformed. is there any specific settings required for doing that or im missing something. help will be really appreciated
thank you

Try selecting the loop that the points are on, instead of the points themselves.

Another way around this, would be to just go to CV mode, select the loop by hand, and then scale it. Hull is just a quick way to select loops really.
