Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

apparently you can never have enough guns :p

this is the best work i've seen that's come out of you, and it's good!

i get the feeling that the ship would topple over if the cannons turned to one side and fired though...

Hey, you are amazing modeling, but this looks more like if you have to attack it with torpedoes rather than ion cannons.

Finally I have deleted the link.

thanks
Really its my first proper attempt at hard surface modeling and its fun user added image
Im really looking forward to the phanteater now...
if only there was a chance of me finishing this in time for the challange, I guess ill have to stick with my poster
what are you working on at the moment chirone? I dont feel like ive seen a lot of your work

This is the first model ever I am truly happy with
still plenty of time for me to mess it up in texturing though XD

only problem now is that I have to remodel the UFO to have consistent quality (or a constant lack of XD)

I might make what I have now the small ones and make a 'mother ship'

i've got my spaceship and my eye character as active projects, still working on them when i get a moment.

my spaceship picture is almost complete. just a few more tweaks here and there and something will appear.

somehow its not rendering optical FX for the scene (but it has no trouble doing it on other scenes, so i guess i will have to find another way if i decided to have such things

Ive been doing this all day and somehow made no progress XD
after getting no where with the 3d paint tool (see here- https://forum.simplymaya.com/showthre...threadid=32492) I decided to model the fighter
this took A LOT longer than it should because I wasnt really sure where I was going with it.
I cant get the massive engine (which for some reason I really want to be a part of this) to integrate well with the rest of it
I know AO doesnt look as good against a darker background but you couldnt really see it
I havent added details/weapons yet

Ah! now that ive added six planes to the deck render times are through the roof with AO and it runs out of memory well before its finished
Its says memory limit is 128mb, is there any way to increase it?
EDIT: checked script editor and every time I render I get a message like this (number not the same every time)
// Warning: (Mayatomr.Script): Computed memory limit of 51 MB is below threshold, setting to 128 MB instead //
any idea what the problem is?

does this mean I have to learn about render layers? user added image

AO is a render layer!

Can you post how you are doing your AO renders, you shouldn't really have that memory problem cos your model doesn't seem as polygon heavy as some others. Also the images you posted don't seem right for some reason.
A. they are small
B. they have no anti-aliasing
C. they are washed out.

the last three on page 6 look like you have 0 max distance and a high filter size.

AO.., with out doubt. FG and GI and AO all work together.., AO will add the finer detail where GI could not.

how they work is sort of technical and not too nessaccaary when beginning to learn them.

roughly

GI will illuminate the scene via a HDRI.., no lights needed .., GI lights the scene

FG sort of does the same thing (actually i have forgotten the specifics)

Ao add depth to the shadows that GI or FG can not. the edges of ceiling railing and corners.., AO gets in the and adds depth.

tuts.., well they cost. goggle u tube. there might be a tut here that used GI, FG and AO.., check it out and do them. THEN you have to learn how to composite them.., hopefully that will be in the tut.

the help files should shed light on all of this.., they have tuts in maya and 'the area' hat will guide you through from your first start up on may a to advanced workflow.
