I gave a choice of two cards because they fit my budget. Not because I'm being cheap. user added image

I'm asking for help. Not how great your hardware is.

Thanks anyway.

The Gforce isnt supported by maya so theres no gurantee its going to render particles etc.

I'm not sure on the ATI but there is a similar card installed on a machine at uni that appears to run Maya quite well with no probs but i'm not sure if its fully supported (check out alias's site for info on qualifying cards)

I do know that the Quatro range of cards are fully supported so go for one of these if poss as its a profesional graphics card and not a high end gaming one

Many consumer level video cards are not officially supported by maya but may still work perfectly. I got GForce 6800GT 256MB and I'm totally happy with it. Haven't encountered any problems even with hardware rendering.

I use a GFORCE card too and havent had any problems either (on maya 6.0 but I do on maya 7.0), but to me theres no point getting a new PC to run a specific software if theres a slight chance that someting may not work as its just more headache in the long run.

Don't forget the importance of the graphics card driver. Some are buggy and may cause all sorts of trouble. Trying different versions + reading about them on forums is not a bad idea. But of course "don't fix it if it's not broken" applies here too user added image
