Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Moore: The bird will be a pirate...the lookout, actually, with a peg-leg, a huge eye, and a patch over the other, first mate will be the hedgehog...only 3 characters planned out for now.

Jim: Thanks for all the information! I added some cuffs (as big as I could considering the small arms, and it does look better). Strangely, I was actually going to have gold trim on the blue jacket, lol. I'm not going to put too many knick-knacks on him though, since he's not really a pirate, but a kid playing pirate with his friends. I wanna keep it kinda simple, but I may add a few more.

Furry...you replied to the first post which had the rough of the model...look at the other posts for updated pictures. And please don't post if you don't have any constructive criticism. I am not going for realism in this model, it's meant to be cartoony.

Okay...added the ears! Also made a cool little rapier for him. Fixed up the lace on the shirt so it looks like it's actually "laced". Also had to fix the hat so it would fit around his hears. I think i'm pretty much done with the modeling portion, maybe some knick knacks here and there, but i'm gonna get the eyes done next (i'll try the suggestion you made Jim) and then textures...although i may rig him while i'm texturing, just so i'm not doing only 1 thing...and i'm a little daunted (is that a word?) by the prospect of setting him up fo ranimation...not sure how i can make the clothes move the way i want them to and deform properly...or have the body deform properly...then the eyes which i doubt will be easy...but i think i'll figure it out...i have a book on animation and the web is amazing for help.

okay...got a rig...not finished yet...need to add a whole lot of control objects...i learned a lot from my animation book, and some things may look familiar to some :p
used inverse kinematics for the feets, and created a control object for 'em. haven't created controls for anything else, but the arms currently have IK...spline IK on the spine isn't working how i'd like user added image but i'll figure that out later...gonna do the head with blend shapes, but i put a joint to help control jaw opening. Also added some joints to control the ears, so i can make 'em sag/droops/fold/etc (i think they'll work?)
