assistance with fur

I am making a model, and I want to cover it only partially with fur, but when I add fur to the model, the whole thing gets covered with fur, adn I don't want eye sockets full of fur. how can I only add fur in certain areas?

I've not got maya fur but if its anything like shave and haircut then you select only the faces you want to apply the fur to and then apply it.
