Holy cow this takes forever to render!!!

I'm trying to use Paint Effects to paint all the very dense vegetation on a small island but holy cow it's taking forever to render. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make it less heavy? I'll post up a pic if I manage to get one rendered.

you can try batch rendering it from the command line w/o even opening up maya...
