Unknown Nodes Preventing ascii save

Hi, I've done a search but not turned anything up that's pertinent...

Does anyone know of a workaround for the following:

I've worked on files at home in Maya 6 and need to save them into ascii form so I can change the headers and re-open them in Maya 5.1 at work. However, because the files have an export plugin that I don't have on my machine at home I'm unable to change the file format from .mb to .ma . All I get is 'This file contains unkown nodes or data, the file format cannot be changed.

I actually thought I was going to be ok, as normally when that happens I have trouble even opening the file and that didn't happen. user added image

So other than opening the file in a text editor and wiping all the plugin info out (laborious) is there anything I can do?

Any info greatly appreciated. user added image

can't you just unload the plugin before you save it? then save it as an ascii and edit as normal?
