what kind of rendering are you going to play with arran, standard? mental ray? other?
hope you have fun working on the texturing - definitely a good idea to get lots modelled and then concentrate on that bit

XtremeAMX: thanks mate!
marlonjohn: cheers! not sure which bit you mean though - it's based on a corner of my office at work, so I did measure, but I'll check the height.
t1ck135: probably mental ray. yeah - i tend to really like modelling and then lose interest when I get to texturing, so this time i'm going to try to stick with it.
Some Guy: easy. I just drew a curve for the profile. then extruded a circle for one wire. Moved the pivot and duplicated 97 or so more in a circle for the front cage and then duplicated some more for the back. ha ha nice avatar - kind of reminds me of cookie monster at the end.
no update just yet. I started texturing but now my laptop is giving me some problems... of course. :headbang:

hello - bit of an update - I've been working on textures - here's a shot of the fan - just a color map so far. I've added a chrome shader to the wire cage - but i'm a bit unsure of how to add some rust and dirty up - a layered texture perhaps...?

It looks realy good. I think with the shadows you need to turn The amount of rays up or the scattering down in the shadows options, i dont have Maya Up.

thanks gster and some guy.
I tried turning down the reflectivity and that helped. as you can see in this pic the chrome bits are pretty messed up - i'm a bit unsure of how to approach them.
ha ha - that macGuyver quote cracked me up...

here's an update on the phone - still need to add a spec map, sort out that bit on the receiver, and add the cord, but it's getting there.

Use the specular color map to add dirt...that usually works.
