bind skin/skin weight tool

hello. i have problem with weighting. i have a character which consists of multiple objects (body, head, hands etc.). i bound skin and now i can't edit it with weight tool. i can edit only the object of my character i select as first. when i'm trying to weight another objects, i get error message "the skin cluster does not deform selected components". i could not find where to switch the skin clusters.
