I could be wrong but isn't emo a term used to describe bands who are made up of privileged individuals whos lyrics are basically made up of empty whining while trying to appear like "complicated" people? :s

And I bet some of you have a Brittney Spears track somewhere on your hard drive lol jk jk ... or am I o.O

Actualy, its good you brought up this questionuser added image

For an explanation of what is EMO and how to avoid becoming emo hehe, check out this funny & informative 20 minute instructional video:

On a serious note, back when I graduated high school (1991), I was listening to a LOT of Janes Addiction and the Sex Pistols, and we wore a LOT of black, got too many tats and piercings, and actually found Doc Martins really comfortable.

Some friends of mine wore makeup because they listened to the Cure a little TOO much, lol

Back then we were called Punk.

The funny thing is, the styles of clothes we wore, the way we acted, the tats the peircings, and the places we partied are EXACTLY like the so-called "goth" today.

So, it just makes me laugh when I hear of a "new" name for something that already had a name when it first happened more than a decade before, lol

LOL, I did a google search on EMO and this is what I found.

First was Actor comedian Emo Phillips which could be how this all got started, and the gay looking kids with the F**ked up hair cut and the black grungy drab associated with the look.

How does this relate to bands?

Lol hey to each his own, they can express themselves in whatever way, some people don't have that so its all good. I'm just not a big fan of guys who put so much into hair and makeup that it starts to obscure their gender :x

GecT: Might want to state that as each to "their own". Seems like in the EMO culture it's hard to tell what gender your looking at.

Take these 2 characters for example.

The one on the left, thats a good question. No one knows the gender is. BTW, thats "PAT", its a character not a real persona. The one on the right is the real deal. It's Boy George, a famous pop singer from the 80's.
