i thought the original problem was solved - only the pragma missing that predefines funtions? the error "cannot find procedure" is really good - as it wanted to do it, but could not find it user added image

yeah that's true user added image I've now made the expression source the script before it tries to run it which again in the viewport is fine but it doesnt like it in the batch render.

ok i finally got it. But it's such a crap way of having to do it! I made it so that the doLod function was not a function anymore but just a piece of script. Then I made maya source it before each frame and now it works...... oh well.

a really bad hack around it would be to instead trying to source it, "source" it manually. so instead of calling the procedure, copy and paste the whole thing into the expression (that assumes it does not recursively call itself, which would be a slight problem ... ) user added image

and dont forget to use the cmd render user added image

or, maybe put the source command in the pre render mel script ???
