help with ramp layer

in my atmosphere ramp layer, the blue glow is showing up in the shadow where it should be completely dark. I have raytrace shadows on, I have it set to completely transparent for the area in the shadow of the earth. whats wrong?

Have you tried moving the black part of the ramp further towards the middle?

I don't know about the ramp shader but you might want to create the atmosphere as a separate geometry and play around with facing ratio and transparency...
BTW, the atmosphere is way to far off the surface of the planet.
