Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Wakes and Emitter Problem

I'm new to Maya and this forum. I'm using Maya 6.5. I have animated a ship moving through the ocean. I've created the smoke, ocean, clouds and skybox. I still have some problems.

1. I've created a wake emitter and texture and parented them to the ship. The wake doesn't show up. I've fiddled with the neg (down) and pos (up) but still no texture. Any ideas?

2. I found a .mel on the internet (twemitfromocean.mel) that will emit particles to create ocean foam. It's loaded OK just the particles aren't being shown when I animate the scene. Any ideas on this?

3. How do I go about placing foam emitters around the ship? Do I parent them to say the bow? Do I create a fluid container (off camera) and via Dynamic Relationship link the foam emitters to it? If so what texture, etc do I use to create foam?

Any answers or just pointing me to a relevant tutorial would be helpful.

personally i have never seen anyone use 'foam emmiters' i have never heard of them.., doesnt mean they are nor there.., i thought wake was to do with turbulence and frequency added in its (frequency) Y direction (my memory) and magnitude all tweaked.., foam i thought was some thing like a ramp in the ocean shader??

all sounds like you have over complicated an already complicated (of sorts) procedure

hopefully someone in the know will help and we will both learn user added image

you can pulll down an example ocean and look at its settings.., you could tghen make it live.., draw a motion curve (curve) on it.., make it unlive.., and the animate you boat along it.., if i had time i would check to see if you had to make it a colllision object to get the wake happening..,

all this just happens to be something im interested for a short film im making.., i want to do that trick in Matrix when he puts his finger in the mirror and his finger and the mirror sort of join and become liquid..,

same thing you want sort of.., soft bodies.., but in this case.., with springs

good luck
