rigging a hand

hey i dont really know if there is a right or wrong answer but what do you guys think is the best way to bind bones to a hand, or other parts i guess but im mainly working on a hand. ive tried rigid bind and smooth bind, and find at the minute that rigid bind is working well, but when i move certain joints the geometry srews up and i dont know how to fix it, like you would if it was a smooth bind and you could paint the weight maps.

thanks guys for your two cents worth

the more I Think I know about Maya the less I seem to know about it.
