subd n polygon

hi guy i am maya user 2011. recently i wan to do a human modeling,so i watch a tutorial about the human model.i found out the technique which is switch in between polygon mode and subd mode.at 1st i modeling mouth n eye in separate part, but when i combine this 2 part, then i convert into subd mode but i facing a problem which is i no longer switch it to polygon mode. pls help me tq:wave:

I dont use subd but you can convert to polygons............dave

after i combine 2 object i can convert to subd mode but cannot switch back to polygon mode...user added image

I have a feeling you are converting from sub-d back to polygon and retaining the refined geometry level. The effect is that you are baking in the subd refinement into your polygon geomemtry. Sort of like smoothing the polygon geometry setting divisions above 0 and then deleting your history. Once you do this you cannot ever get back the low lovel geometry.
