Polygon to Subdiv

Hi

I'm trying to convert a human model from polygon to Subdiv and for some reason it won't do anything. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Sorry it's not an error message it just doesn't work at all.
I've selected the whole model then >Modify>Convert>Polygon to Subdiv. I was roughly following the free human form tutorials by Kurt Boutilier.
Any ideas?

I'll include a pic in case it's a problem with the model

You probably exceed the maximum faces just go to the modify convert menu then go to poly to subd select the optionbox(little square on the right) there you should probably amp the number of faces.

Haven't given it ago yet as I have other assessments to be getting on with but from brief scan I'd imagine it would fix my problem
