Complex UV Layout in Maya

Using a Downloaded Rig

Hey Everyone,

I downloaded this really cool looking "Creature" rig from the following link:

If you unzip it, in the images folder, there is a jpg called creaturerig1.

My questions are the following:

- Is using something like that the way an animator is supposed to set up rigging? I mean, is that the "control center" for any real animation?

- In the download, is that rigging "system" there? I can't seem to find it when I open the file?

I know I am no where near creating a character/rig like that, but I would love to be able to fool around with it if I can.

Animators tend not to do rigging, the smaller studios may do. Rigging is a bit of a specialist skill.

Character TD`s tend to change there rigs depending on the needs of the animator, cartoon, realistic, specific deformations. every project has different requirements.

Some has an user interface(for very long projects)
For shorter projects there all set up on ctrl curves

then you have people that dont like blendshapes (me) and use everything with bones and deformers.

Or you have people that like blendshapes more.

It all depends on the animator, as long as the TD is concerned the Animator is the one that gives the specific request, or whoever is giving you instructions.

Lead Animator would be the one that has the most influence on what the requirements are, or the supervisors.

I understand....I guess what I am asking is, if you happen to look at the link, there is a screen shot of what looks like a "control screen" of how you would move/animate the character. My real question is, did the author/poster of this include that as well and am I just not seeing it. I do get that rigging/modeling is 2 different skills and it's more than likely that one would take on a speciality.
