Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

im just trying to get ideas for a paint job.. should i go with a custom paint job (what should it be) or should it have a decal to go on the sides?

I think you should use the blue lightening(like you have it now) and just use a few of them. That way its not cluttered.

For HDRI create a giant sphere, well larger then your car.

Assign the sphere a lambert shader.

Assign your HDRI image for the Incandescence and Color.(Maya will not recognize the image but Mental Ray will and you will most likely need to rotate the image i did 90 degrees.)

Create a spot light and turn Intensity to 0(This causes maya not to use the default lighting and rely strictly off the HDRI sphere.)

Adjust the Ambient Color for intensity of HDRI.

Turn on Final Gathering

Render away
***To remove the HDRI image from the background, place it on its own render layer and turn of the render. It will render the lighting and reflections but not in the background.

where can i get a hdri image from? I got one.. that has a .hdr extention.. but it doesn't seem to work in maya.

well since hybrid is doing some more cars.. i figured i would start on one. Yet another honda - 2002 Honda Civic Hatchback SI. This is what i have so far.. what do you guys think?

Well I was searching for more help and I found the site where I learned it from. Mental Ray - HDRI. Maya itself doesn't recognize the hdri image, but mental ray will. so it will appear black in maya.

Follow the tutorial and it will show you the way to transform the HDRI image into the correct shape.
