Particle collision with soft bodies?

I am looking for a way to make a flow of particles collide with a surface (soft body?) leaving resulting deformations or erosions in that surface. Can particles collide with soft bodies at all? or what kind of element would the surface need to be?

I am also trying to filter a stream of particles through a screen. however, due to their size they would all always pass through. Instancer replacement has no effect. Is there a way to increase the weight or perimeter of a particle?

Thank you.
