ramps shader and layered shader

hey everyone,

lately i've been trying to make realistically looking glass in maya. i found out that using a rampshader helps alot. this way the transparancy and the reflections of the glass (everything basically) are dependent on the angle you're looking at it (fresnel-effect). but what if i also want to have dirt or fingerprints on a glass? say i make a fingerprint map in photoshop, how do i put the fingerprint on the glass? i can't connect it to the transparancy node of the rampshader cause it will alter the settings in the transparancy node of the rampshader (and thus ruin the fresnel-effect). so i thought a use a layered shader. the first layer will be my before mentioned rampshader. the second one (and third etc)will be the fingerprint texture (or shader with the texture assigned to it). but it seems to me that the only connections that can be made from the rampshader to the layered shader are color, glowcolor, matteopacity and transparancy. does this mean that i cant connect the reflectivity of my rampshader to my layered shader? or can it be done by another way? or does it automatically connects it without me knowing it? im kind of confused. can somebody help me out please? bottomline is i want to combine a rampshader with some textures without loosing the settings of the rampshader. i hope this makes some sense. thanks in advance.

i experimented some more and it seems that the reflection ramp of the ramp shader is automatically connected to the layered shader when color and transparancy are connected. kinda weird. still like to know how you guys combine a ramp shader (with transparancy) with some textures that affect both color and transparancy. or is a layered shader in this case the only way to go? thanks.
