Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

I would try and get your wings and fuselarge UVs (checker board) about the same size it will help in texturing the same pattern all over..............dave

Thanks Dave ctbram. The UVs are relatively the same size. I have separate checkers for 1k, 2k and 4k UV maps. I started with the biggest UVs (Wings and fuselage) to determine the max pixal density I can get and then grouped the remainder of the UVs into the 1,2,4k groups to get consistant pixal density accross the different parts. I just have not adjusted the UV coverage factor on the three checkers. They are still at the default 2x2.

I think I may need one 8k texture for the bump map of the main wings. I did some experimenting and found that I get jagged edges with a 4k bump map on the main wings. Any other way to smooth lines in Maya or Photoshop without going the 8k route?

A Question for Everybody

I am planning to paint this the colors of "Black "8. One of the more famous German fighter pilots. I intend to texture it as close as I can to the original specs. Now this does mean that the tail fin will have a swastika.

Does anyone object to this?

As long as the swastika is there for historical accuracy and not some kind of political message, I don't think anyone should be offended.

The smudge looks a lot better mate. I agree with dave and stwert...its not illegal in Australia to have those symbols.....but as stwert said as long as it is for historical accuracy there shouldnt be a problem. I disagree with countries that ban this symbol entirely...it should remain for historical fact to remind us what it was equated with.

Good job thus far mate

cheers bullet

Dave, yep, they are all off. Any trick I can try in Photoshop to improve the antialiasing?

Yep I turn of all filters in maya nothing stopping you from playing around with the filters to see if they can help with the antialiasing, No tricks really if you are getting jagged lines you need to increase the size of the file.............dave

Thanks Dave. I'll experiment around with the texture filter settings and the antialias render settings. If all fails the bright side is that it's only a bump map so not that much detail to put into 8k.
