Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Looking good on the remodeling man!

I think that the waist looks a bit small, but hey its a fantasy figure.

yer the waste maybe alittle small but still have not committed to a full model or a bust yet. I`m trying to get a basic shape going then will put in some details.

if i make a full model it will look something like this

(sorry about bad image from my crappy phone and not alot of time spent on it)

any way started to redue the head. not going to give her ears as

1) they are hard
2) i dont like them (but love the job they do)
3) they would be covered by the snakes hehe
4) she a monster

hellp with snakes plz

ok i`m going full body on this one now as i think it just looks so cool.

got the bulk of the model blocked out out now. will have to reshape the main body as i go to get it just right. Also reshaped the lower body so shes not so thin and added the other arm.

https://www.ravage3d.com/images/neils...007/redue4.jpg

my main concern is the number of snakes to have. Been playing with numbers all night and I just dont know.

The idea is to have snakes on sides and top of head with currect number of tails coming out the back like dreadlocks with rattles.

I started with 12 snakes (4 each side 4 on top) and have also tried with 10 and 8. left of the tails from the back of head for now.

too few she looks bold, too many it looks crowed and hard to see face. I also worried if it could be made in to the prize if there were to many snakes.

plz have a look and let me know

yeah - this is looking really great! I am glad to see that you have gone for the full body - her snake half looks really cool all coiled up. As for the amount of snakes on her head, I would go for more just cos it looks so cool, but it does make you wonder how it will be dealt with by 3d Art to Part...

Definately an early favorite for me.user added image

Bit of a hard decision on the hair/snakes etc. Dunno what to suggest. Think theres a minimum thickness for the 3dart to part on their site.

Looks good so far man keep it up.

not sure thickness will be the problem looking at this image from there site

link to hair pic

Just really cant make up my mind on how many to have. Will play some more when I get home tonight might also get the tails on there and see what that looks like

Oh by the way I found my old instatute forum the other day and found the old w.i.p of the project I had to scrap with images of my old Medusa there. Some of the models look so dodgy.

further proof that I started this one from sctrach...
