Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

For simplicity to get a hole in a plane, select the plane in face mode then with the manipulator tool use the scale icon to scale it inward then delete the face in the centre. Doing it this way is far cleaner than using a Boolean op.

Cheers

i think u really need to study the free tuts in here and other sites b4 u take on such a project, making holes is a simple thing. and this project will be hard for people to help u havin a such a lack of knowledge. hope i dont sound awful as thats not my intentions.
highend 3d and kurts dog tutorial are great starting blocks
heres a bike i made after 2 months experience and using free tuts.

umm .. i'm having a little trouble with my front rim right now

picture of my problem --> https://www.clansm.com:8080/rim.jpg

does anyone know why the outside ring would go the shape it does?

ok, the solution was because the outside ring had 2 verticies and i merged them all together to get my rim

so far it looks like this

thanks 4 the help

at first glance it looks like the edges aren't joined together properly.

make sure you adjoining vertices are merged, i.e. you dont have 2 verts per edge where it rounds, then bevel the edges to magke the curve smoother and then smooth
