I think the latter is better because the background already has a natural DOF. Also the vespa is about in the focus point of the shot so it looks natrural too... You might want to crop the backround image and zoom the image up. Now the bike looks a bit lonely there I'd put it something like this:

Lookin much better!

Might wanna darken the shadows just a smidgin more.

Also, if you look closely at your bg image, there's already a decent amount of DOF in it, so I'd personally leave the DOF alone

One last thing, you might wanna throw a few bounces of light on your model, one light aiming upwards, and one light aiming the opposide direction of your current key light to lighten the dark-black shadows a bit.
Make the light color the color of the overall ground-bricks.

This will help to tie your model to the bg image a little bit better

Looks great man!

That would be a great idea!
I for instance would love to see how you made some of the surfaces.

Im particulary interested in this part, since Ive been trying to nurbs model a Mirage Fighter, whos engine noozles are quite similar to the vespa part Ive enclosed in the image.

Thanks again!

By the way: That part is stitched to the shield nurbs surface right?
