Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

great to see all the bits in together vim, really impressive user added image

I'd say the light on the floor (especially the wood) is too bright. You'd expect far darker shadows around the legs and the reflective bits would have more contrast.
Not too sure about the stripy wall parts either (a little distracting) but I'm sure with your skill and a little time you could bring the realism into the scene and be onto a winner user added image

You can only go so far with ray tracing, You need to get your Global Illumination going on for your enviorment to look better. You mentioned early on that you were experimenting with GI. Are you having any problems in that area?

Looking alot better Vim, but it's pretty obvious your using a spotlight. In my opinion, you need to bump up the GI to lighten up the room a bit if your using GI. If your not using GI I reccomend using many small Spotlights ( as decoration ) around the scene, and how about using an ambient to fill it in a little bit.

I'm also curious if you would consider darkening the wood color of the pinball machine. It's clashing with the floor a bit in my honest opinion.

All of this of course is just a reccomendation.

Lol, where is VRay when you need it! I heared that they are coming up with vray for Maya very soon, so for photorealism that is the best of the best.

Now about your model, looking better and more realistic as you post! ANd the cloth is just stunningly photorealistic.

keep it up!

You don't need just VRay for photorealism. Mental Ray, Brazil, Turtle, and Renderman are all fantastic rendering programs. You just have to know how to use them. Vim is doing a fantastic job with Mental Ray. I have seen too much comparrison between Mental Ray and Vray, and to be honest, I'm tired of it.

Yeah, but the main advantage of vray is the fact that it renders about 1.5-2 times faster then MR.
And I agree that vim is doing very good with MR. Very good. But that doesnt mean that Vray is not good, nor does it mean that MR is better then VRay. IF you are good at either one, they can be as good as eachother, if you take out the fact that vray renders faster.

Thx amtt and thx. Mental ray is a powerful render appz but the take long time to render lol, so im prefer renderman but the shader and what ever is most complex. So currently im work to add more cloth and some furnitures.

MattTheMan, I never said VRay was better than Mental Ray or vice versa. My most sincere apologies to you for the confusion. I was just pointing out that VRay wasn't the only render program that can render photoreal. I agree that Mental Ray can be alot faster, but I hear ( and I could be wrong ) the stand alone version of Mental Ray is faster than the Maya intergrated version.

I dont know if it's the solid red texture on the wall or not, but it looks like you have some very slight GI artifacting showing up on the red part of the wall. But other than that, the GI has really improved the over all lighting. Still, I think the lighing could use a bit more work though.

This of course is just my own opinion. It's still a great render!
