Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

I have a GREAT completely in-depth tutorial for modeling a car.

https://www.3dm3.com/tutorials/maya/car/

that is part one, there are 4 parts.

Good luck, and be sure to post your screwdriver when you're done with it too!

No problem. Search the learning-maya.com page for further tutorials. I got the screwdriver tutorial from there, too.

This is all I have, I really dont know what he means when he says dgs material... but here we go. also, for some reason I could only get about 3 of the circles to actually do the boolean, the rest killed my screwdriver... so I can only shoot from this angle

Your model was "killed" because of wrong normals. It's an error which occurs when normals of the poly faces are inverted. This error is connected with the boolean tool. Make sure that all normals are pointing out of the object and not into it. To see your normals select the object and go to: Display->polygon components->normals
To make them invisible again do the same. If some normals are pointing into the object, select the faces which have wrong normals and go to: edit polygons->normals->reverse.
That sould work...good luck.

Edit:

TIP: if you want to bool many parts (like the "holes" in your screwdriver) then select the objevts with which you want to bool and go to polygons->combine to make them one object. Then use the boolean tool.

I cannot find the Ford Focus WRX.. I can only find the WRC. They dont look much different so do you think I could just use the WRC?

Do you have the WRX picture? Could you please post it if you do, so I can download it?

A dgs material is for Mantal Ray (I think). You need to find it in the hypershade. go to the MR materials tab and it is in there.
I havn't used it befor though.
