EditPlus w/plugin for editing MEL

K-man got me kinda tweaked on finding a good text editor for MEL because Jext doesn't specifically support MEL and I came across EditPlus. They have MEL support (a downloadable zip in the link I added). I downloaded the EditPlus evaluation copy and loaded the maya support files. Pretty cool. Check out the screenshot below.

I realize there are tons of regular text and coding apps out there, many free and most do the job just fine. Just thought I'd bring it to anyone's attention that was interested.

I use Crimson Editor on my PC. No MEL plugin, so I added my own syntax color hints anyway. A little extra work on my end, but hey, it's a free program. user added image

On my Mac, BBEdit all the way. It's not free and there's no MEL plugin (C++ syntax coloring works fine), but man, it's a powerful and fast text editor.

Yeah, kb said exactly the same thing about Jext...using the c++ color coding. I briefly messed around with color syntax on a mel file in Dreamweaver, then got sidetracked with EditPlus. I like the fact that it gives you the list of maya attributes in it's clip window on the left.

That attribute list is pretty cool. My solution is just to keep the MEL commands reference open in my browser. user added image
