Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

7 month Maya couse at Escape Studios... Free...

Escape Studios is delighted to announce the new VFX | Production Grade. Launching in October 2005, this revolutionary new course, which is funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund, offers the most intensive and focused production training available for the aspiring CG artist. The programme consists of 5 months full-time training at Escape Studios working on production projects followed by a 2-month work placement at a top UK post-house. The course is targeting individuals who already have a showreel demonstrating a sound grasp of Maya but need to take their skills to a more professional level.

In order to create this ground-breaking programme Escape Studios has been working closely with post houses Cinesite, Double Negative, Framestore CFC, Glassworks, the Mill and the Moving Picture Company (MPC). There are 14 places on the course but following the training portion at Escape Studios students will be divided up and distributed amongst the participating post houses for 2 months ‘in production’. This will require the students to work on live jobs in the 3D departments and not as runners. It is hoped that the vast majority of the students will be kept on by the companies involved.

Stephen Venning, 3D Operations Manager at the Mill in London said;

“The Mill are really excited about being involved in this project. This course is perfectly poised to provide the UK industry with new artists of the highest calibre.”

As a direct result of this course’s industry relevance and quality, Skillset, the sector skills council for the audio visual industries, are giving it their full support. This comes in the form of total financial cover for the students including a minimum wage for the duration of the course. The result is that not only will the course bear no cost to the individuals, they will all also be paid to do it! This unprecedented show of support is indicative not only of the quality of the programme but of Skillset’s unequivocal dedication and commitment to supporting the UK’s audio visual sector. The money comes from the Skillset Film Skills Fund, made up of lottery money via the UK Film Council and industry investment from the SIF production levy.

Given the high-profile nature of this programme as well as the absence of any financial barriers to the students it is predicted that places will be hotly contested. Anyone who wishes to apply must send a CV and showreel that demonstrates their Maya skills to Escape Studios.
