Will GeoUV still work with 6.01

Hey guys,
I was searching around for a UV script or plug-in, and I found a company called Geometric Informations Inc. They have a plug-in called GeoUV, which from watching their demo video it looks pretty cool. However, the weird part is I never seen a plug-in that would make its compatibility to the software that it works with, start off on a half version. It states that you can choose from either Maya 6.5 or 7.0. Why would they start their compatibility to work a on a half version application such as Maya 6.5 and not 6.0? Also I am wondering if it is because maybe they just didn't test their plug-in on Maya 6.01? Do think this is possible and do you think this should work on 6.01? Please excuse my lack of intellegence, but I just never seen somthing like this before. Have you?

Quite possibly they developed it when maya 6.5 was out and used that platform to test it.
Email them and ask if it works on version 6.0x
