Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

I was going to say the previous fur colour was better but now you've made this version a bit denser it looks good.
The nose is more often than not pink on the little critters and there is no fur around the nostril openings. Maybe toning the nose colour down and removing a little fur at the bottom of it might help.

Nice work with the fur realism user added image

Thanxs T1ck user added image .
Here is the fur with a new ajusted Baldness map. I still have a heap of work to go with the nose. u can't see it from this angle but i have made the nostrils furless. I need to make it shorter running down the nose and i think i will add more of it. While studying my cats nose i saw that there was as much fur on it as the rest of it except that it was smaller and stuck closer to it.

C&C are welcome user added image

SSS stands for Sub Surface Scatering. It's an optical phenomena that happens in surfaces that permit light penetrates until certain depth and then is reflected. Where and when do you see this? Everyday, when you look at you in mirror, or to any person or animal (without fur). When people model organic bodies, they use, in almost 100% of cases a SSS shader as material. if you have Maya 7.0, the SSS is already on your default MentalRay materials. If not, you can download SSS and see a very good tutorial about its use in https://highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/...aders/135.html

Thanxs, i'll use that when i start texturing the model.

Here is an update on the fur (Wich is getting very boring to do).
I have changed the nose so that only the nostrils are bald. I have lessened the fur around the mouth and made a split in the fur.

Nose

You may want to fix the amount of fur on the nose and possibly the bone structure of the Guinea Pig's features.

Check out the attached photo.

thats a cute little photo joed, though when you look closer at the eyes and claws it suddenly looks like a vicious little thing - two little pointy teeth sticking out and it could be vlad the guinea pig impailer user added image

Keep going with the fur Some Guy!
