Fading in and out

Ok this is short i just needed to know if ther is a way to fade things in maya. any object or part.

turn up the transparency for the material.

I think he means to animate it while it's fading.

I'm pretty sure you can keyframe the transparency attribute so that the object will fade in or out over time.
