Uhh I think bump mapping?

Hey guys,

I am going to sound extremely noobish...because I am to Maya and all this moddelling and whanot...but once you have an object down...and you want to add the texture and everything(not like blinn or lambert property), like make your character's skin and face and all that. I saw that you have to make a seperate skin with the different textures...then you somehow apply that to the object. How/where exactly do I learn to do this?

I saw a cube that had the image on all sides...and saw that all it was, was a flat images that was the same as if the box was broken at the seams(like making a box out of a piece of paper)....then it wraps around giving it it's appearence....

I dont know why I am explaining this since you guys know what i am talking about....basically....I believe I know how it works...just not how to do it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks!

DSA
