In a way you could apply the same technique as box modelling a car. Get a front and side view reference shot of the boot/shoe first and then look around on the net for maya car tutorials. Apply the same technique and you should come out with something half decent

Help is appreciated

I am trying to model Gene Simmon's monster boots and am having difficulty coming up with the best way to model the scales that go up the leg, The shoe I have modeled. Any ideas on how to model those scales (pictured)? I think it all needs to be one mesh since I need to pose him and the legs of the boot need to follow the leg bones. Not crazy about modeling individual scales all the way up the leg (ugh). Could perhaps a texture work as opposed to modeling the scales? Iím not sure because the scales actually flare out. For more
