Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

2 Textures on a nurb-surface?

Hi!

I have a problem with my tyre: I've created a projection-bump-map texture for my nurbs-tyre (see result in the attachment).
Now I want to add a similap texture, also a bump-map to the side of the tyre, there where the now assigned texture is invalid/looks wrong...

I though about a layered texture, but I do not know, how to create one with two textures and 2 3d-Projections (one cylindrical, as it is now, and the new one planar from the side...) in a way that they do not cross each other... Or is there a way to assign different textures to different parts of a nurbs-surface?

Please help me!

Best Regards

Markus S.

there are probably a few different methods you could try. How about using a Ramp? You can map the textures to the different colors of the ramp, an adjust the sliders to fit correctly...

That's one suggestion. Anyone have another?

I don't think that would work, since I have to use to 3d-projectionsuser added image ...

Also, you could try making one texture fit properly...

could detach the surface where the two textures would meet and apply to the correct surfaces, making sure the texture blended well...

I'm sure someone must have more suggestions... lol. I'm mostly a polygon guy. ;P

Well, I think it might be obvious then, that the tyre consists of 2 surfaces? Or would the geometry keep exactly as before the detachment?

Thanx anyway for your helpuser added imageuser added image

normally the surface should not alter after detachment.. so it won't show.. just rebuild and del history, and you should be fine.. :p

Ok, thank you very much. Finally, I detached the side of my tyre-surface to put different textures on each new surface.

I've made a little animation (about 990 KB) with my tyre, the camera moves around the tyre while it's rotating. At the end, the brake pad brings the brake disk to glowuser added image .. : https://kingmarkuz.tripod.com/Wheelani.avi

Sory for I don`t see your troble on time.
I have the same trouble with my motorcycles projects.
I solve with different way.
I create NURBS torus and move top and bottom vertecs to fit in wheel.
Also you can Convert nurbs in poligons and use diffrent shader on diffrent faces.
Or editing texture file in Photo Shop.

Well, my problem was that i wanted to use NURBS instead of Polygons. I know it is much easier with polys, but it doesn't look as good as with nurbs...

Try in Photo Shop erase left and right side of map.
Add second layer map in erased part below first.
