cast shadows dont show in Viewport2

Maya 2014
Using Viewport 2.0
...just a plane and a sphere with one spotlight shining on the sphere. What shows is the light on the sphere and the plane and the resulting shadows are fine. But the shadow that the sphere would cast on the plane is missing. Raytracing and all my setting are set to raytracing. When I render it shows up. When I use depthmap it shows, just not on raytrace. Have I gone completely insane?

I seem to remember that raytraced shadows where not implemented into viewport2 until Maya 2016 even maya 2017 raytraced shadows do not work that well in vp2.

So no your not going mad lol
