Back face polygons display issue

Hey guys,

I have this weird problem I haven't seen before in maya 2017. When I create or import any mesh I can't see the back faces of the polygons in any way. I checked double sided, show both sides under lighting, checked and unchecked backface culling.. I can't see anything. Not even the wireframe. I added images from maya 2017 and 2016 to explain.
The only way I can see the back faces is if I go all the way through display-> polygons-> backface culling. It is a solution, but it's not how it's suppose to be and I have to do that for every single object.
Anyone knows what is the problem?

Thanks
