Rigging a telephone?

Hi all,

I'm modeling a phone at the moment with a spiral cord and would like to rig it so that when animated the cord stretches like a real phone cable. I've tried bones with IK but it doesn't let me stretch the cable, only curl it up.

Any ideas anyone?
